A Much Needed Rest

“God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work he had done in creation.” Genesis 2:3

God rested. Is that just baffling to anyone else? I admit I am not a scripture scholar, perhaps they have the answers, but my biggest question is, if God rested, why don’t I?

As we’ve been mentioning this week, we took a summer break from A Mom Revolution. Diana has originally announced over the summer that she would be taking a break as she prepared for the birth of her daughter Lucia. I had planned to keep blogging. I figured since I wasn’t homeschooling during the summer and my husband was home to help with the kids, (he’s a school teacher), that I’d get all kinds of writing done…. and then I didn’t! I hit vacation mode and that was that! I got a new phone in July and it didn’t have my social media password so I couldn’t log back in, and I admit, it was glorious! My in-laws moved to a new house and I got to help them declutter the old house and organize their new house. Needless to say, I was in my happy place. We got some great family camping in this summer and I got to practice resting!

Somehow, working through anxiety and panic attacks, has taught me how to sit and rest. How that worked out, is beyond my understanding, but I’m grateful for it. For the first time ever, I just sat under the canopy and relaxed while my children played in the lake. I’m realizing things like I hate being in the sun, so with the help of a canopy, I’m not dying to leave within the first 5 minutes of arriving. I’m learning more about myself and how I function best.

So it’s been a fruitful summer BUT I’ve missed A Mom Revolution! I’m excited to be back to journeying in our motherhood together. I’m looking forward to getting back to my writing and to seeing what our second year with A Mom Revolution will bring!

Before we get to work, let’s talk about rest! How do you rest? How do you shut off your mom brain and relax? If you’re struggling, keep trying to rest, I know you’ll find a way to squeeze in moments of peace, even if it’s hiding in the closet for 5 minutes!
